Dear Mariners,

Welcome to this unique blog, dedicated to our beloved, curious, naughty, and lively character, "Paanchsaab Pyarelal " Here, you'll find a curated collection of his various escapades and musings, neatly organized and archived for your enjoyment.

For those unfamiliar, Paanchsaab Pyarelal is a fictitious Junior Engineer aboard a merchant ship. His keen observations, insightful questions, and unique perspective on various marine topics are sure to give you pause, inspire introspection, and perhaps even provide some valuable insights.

Pyarelal has been a fixture in our community for almost a decade now. Many of his adventures were originally crafted for publication in the Institute of Marine Engineers Magazine (MER), the annual Gauge-glass publication for the erstwhile DMET-MERI-IMU, and also served as a complement to the Chief Engineers Tea Time Talk,, a series of YouTube training videos produced by RMET Consultancy.

Now, it's time for Pyarelal to take his rightful place in the spotlight.

Within this blog, you'll find cartoon images that correspond to specific topics. Clicking on these images will lead you to corresponding training content in the form of YouTube videos. Additionally, some topics will include training notes aimed at aiding junior officers preparing for exams or orals.

You might call it CBT-based training - Cartoon Based Training. The premise behind this approach is simple: training doesn't always have to be serious, formal, and intense. It can also be light-hearted, humorous, and casual, where learning happens organically, without added stress.

Boiler blowdown

  Original creation :25/8/2011 Boiler Safety There are three things which are required for successful firing of Boiler. Admission of fuel –Atomized or as per design (including correct viscosity/temperature etc) Sufficient Air to ensure Combustion— Both above are in a proper Ratio (stoichiometric Ratio) and designed to mix   as per design. Ignition to kick start the Firing. The above happen at a particular sequence with meticulously calculated time intervals The entire process is Automated by Boiler Misfiring of a Boiler –results when one of the above gets disturbed. When there is a failure of complete of Fuel admission – Not much Harm might occur –except for the Boiler Not Firing. However if there is a Failure of admission of AIR or IGNITION , fuel would be inserted into the boiler furnace which eventually never could be ignited .So Accumulation of Fuel Takes place which may leads to Furnace explosion when an attempt is made to...
